Minipress
(Prazosin) is a medication from a alpha-adrenergic blockers group. Minipress (Prazosin) relaxes the veins and arteries so that blood
can more easily pass through them. It is
used for treatment of high blood pressure alone or concomitantly with diuretics
or beta-adrenergic blocking medications
Indication for use
Minipress (Prazosin) can be taken by
almost all adults and children over 12 who have:

arterial
hypertension;

congestive heart
failure
Precautions
Minipress (Prazosin) is not recommended to use if you have: hypersensitivity,
hypotension, constrictive pericarditis, cardiac tamponade, heart defects with
reduced left ventricular filling pressure, pregnancy, lactation,
Dose and usage
Dose of Minipress (Prazosin): 2 mg , 2,5mg – white, round, flat tablets with the
line in the middle.
Before taking this
medication consult with your attending physician.
In case of arterial
hypertension, the initial dose of Minipress (Prazosin) is 0.5 mg, 1 mg 2-3 times a day. Gradually
increase the dose, achieving a hypotensive effect. A persistent hypotensive
effect develops after 4-6 weeks. The maintenance dose is selected individually
and can be 3-20 mg / day. The daily dose is divided into 2-3 doses.
In case of chronicle
heart failure – 3-20 mg / day in 2–3 doses, observing the usual precautions
(the first dose should not exceed 0.5 mg, after taking the patient should be in
the “lying” position for at least 2 hours, the doses should be increased
gradually, given the possibility of orthostatic phenomena).
In case of Raynaud’s
syndrome, the initial dose is 0.5 mg, the average therapeutic dose is 1-2 mg,
and the multiplicity is 2 times a day. If necessary – 2 mg 3 times a day.
In symptomatic therapy
of dysuric disorders with prostatic hypertrophy: 0.5 mg for 1 week, 1 mg for 2
weeks, from 3 to 6 weeks – 2 mg. Multiplicity – 2 times a day (morning and
evening).
To eliminate spasm of
peripheral arteries in case of poisoning with ergot alkaloids – 1 mg 3 times a
day.
Side
effects
On the rare occasion Minipress
(Prazosin) can arouse side effects such
as: severe hypotension; dizziness, headache, tachycardia, fatigue, nausea, dry
mouth, increased diuresis, darkening in the eyes, allergic reactions.
