Isoptin (Verapamil) belongs to a class of drugs known as calcium channel
blockersis It works by relaxing the
muscles of heart and blood vessels. Verapamil is used to treat hypertension (high
blood pressure), angina (chest pain), and certain heart rhythm
disorders. Injection of Verapamil is used to rapidly or temporarily restore
normal heartbeats in people with certain heart rhythm disorders.
Indication for use
Isoptin (Verapamil) can be taken by almost all adults who have:

arterial
hypertension;
·
chronic stable angina
pectoris;
·
angina due to
vasospasm;
·
paroxysmal
supraventricular tachycardia;
·
atrial fibrillation /
flutter accompanied by tachyarrhythmia.
Precautions
Isoptin (Verapamil) is not
recommended to use if you have: cardiogenic shock; complicated acute myocardial
infarction (bradycardia, severe arterial hypotension, left ventricular
failure); sick sinus syndrome (bradycardia-tachycardia syndrome); sinoatrial
block; heart failure.
In case of pregnancy and period of lactation you have
to consult with your doctor.
Dose and usage
Dose of Isoptin (Verapamil): 40 mg – white, round, flat tablets, 80mg – white, round, flat tablets; 240 mg – light
green elongated tablets.
Before taking this
medication consult with your attending physician.
Isoptin tablets are
taken orally, 40-80 mg per day, after meals. It can be used for a long time as
a maintenance medication.
The average daily
dose is 360 mg, the maximum is 480 mg. They are taken orally after meals. For
ischemia, Isoptin CP 240 is taken in the range of 240-360 mg per day, dividing
the dose into two doses – morning and evening. With arrhythmias and high blood
pressure – 1 tablet in the morning, if you need to low the pressure – take half
a tablet in the morning, half a tablet in the evening.
If the patient
suffers from cirrhosis of the liver, the dosage is significantly reduced (up to
40 mg taken 2-3 times a day).
Side
effects
Isoptin (Verapamil) taking can
be accompanied by some side effects such
as: bradycardia, tachycardia, a sharp drop in pressure, heart failure,
asystole, nausea, vomiting, constipation, headache, fatigue, paresthesia.
