Cafergot (Caffeine/Ergotamine) – сombined drug, relieves migraine attacks and headaches of vascular origin. Ergotamine normalizes the tone of dilated extracranial arteries. Caffeine accelerates and increases the absorption of ergotamine in the intestines.
Indication for use
Cafergot (Caffeine/Ergotamine) can be taken by almost all adults and teenagers over 18 who have acute migraine attacks and similar attacks of headaches of vascular origin.
Precautions
Cafergot (Caffeine/Ergotamine) is not recommended to use if you have:
• hypersensitivity to one of the components of the drug;
• disorders of peripheral circulation;
• obliterating vascular disease;
• IHD or severe arterial hypertension;
• liver or kidney failure;
• sepsis;
• pregnancy, lactation.
Dose and usage
Cafergot (Caffeine/Ergotamine) 1 mg/100 mg: beige, round tablets, imprinted CAFERGOT. Cafergoth should be taken at the very beginning of the attack. For the first dose, a dose of 2 tablets is recommended. If after 30 minutes there is no improvement, you should take another 1 tab. The drug can be repeated further with an interval of 30 minutes, not exceeding the maximum daily dose. In subsequent attacks, the initial dose can be increased to 3 tablets, depending on the total dose taken during previous attacks. The maximum daily dose is 6 mg of ergotamine tartrate (6 tablets). The maximum weekly dose is 10 mg of ergotamine tartrate (10 tablets).
Side effects
Next side effects are possible: nausea, vomiting, allergic reactions, increased blood pressure, weakness and pain in the limbs, tremors, cardialgia, tachycardia, bradycardia, fibrotic changes in the pleura and retroperitoneal space.
