Cozaar (Losartan) is a drug which active substance is losartan, a representative of a
class of medicines called angiotensin II receptor blocker. It is used for treating high blood pressure alone or
with other medicines. Cozaar (Losartan) positively influences
on the work of heart muscle, reduces the
number of fatal cases due to cardiovascular diseases. By supporting the work of
the heart, the drug possibility of developing conditions for myocardial
infarction, stroke. It activates the protective functions of the kidneys in
patients with type 2 diabetes.
Indication for use
Cozaar (Losartan) can be taken by almost all adults
and teenagers over 18 who have:
· Hypertension;
· Type II diabetes with
proteinuria, to slow the progression of kidney disease, and to reduce
proteinuria.
Precautions
Cozaar (Losartan) is
not recommended to use if you have: hypersensitivity
to any of the components of this drug; simultaneous use with aliskiren in
patients with diabetes mellitus; severe liver dysfunction; hereditary lactose
intolerance, lactase deficiency, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome; pregnancy
and the period of breastfeeding;
Dose and usage
Dose of Cozaar (Losartan): 50 mg, 100mg – white
oval-shaped drug; on one side – embossed 952, on the other side –notch.
Cozaar is taken orally, independently on mealtime , 1 time per day. The
recommended average daily dose is 50 mg. The maximum hypotensive effect
develops no earlier than 3-6 weeks after the start of treatment.100 mg is the
maximum allowable daily dose.
Side effects
In the
course of treatment next side effects can be observed: dizziness, vertigo,
drowsiness, headache, insomnia; angina pectoris, tachycardia; symptomatic
hypotension; abdominal pain, persistent constipation; asthenia, fatigue,
swelling, pain in the chest; anemia, thrombocytopenia; loss of consciousness; diarrhea,
pancreatitis, hepatitis, impaired liver function; back pain, muscle cramps;
urinary tract infections; flu-like symptoms; erectile dysfunction, impotence; changes
in the functioning of the kidneys, including renal failure (reversible
phenomena).
