Hyzaar (Losartan) is a drug which active substance is losartan, a representative of a
class of medicines called angiotensin II receptor blocker. It is indicated for
treatment high blood pressure alone or with
other medicines. The impact of Hyzaar consists in normalizing blood flow
through the relaxing of blood vessels.It prevents heart attack, strokes and
kidney problems. Moreover, except Losartan Hyzaar also consists of one more
active substance – hydrochlorothiazide, diuretic which helps to get rid
of extra water and salt.
Indication for use
Hyzaar (Losartan) can be taken by almost all adults
and teenagers over 18 who have arterial hypertension
Precautions
Hyzaar (Losartan) is not recommended to
use if you have: severe forms of liver failure; resistant to the treatment of
hypokalemia or hyperkalemia; refractory hyponatremia; symptomatic hyperuricemia
/ gout; severe renal failure;
anuria; pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding;
Dose and usage
Dose of Hyzaar (Losartan): 50mg (12.5mg
active substance) – yellow, oval
tablets, with code 717 on one side; 100mg (12.5mg active substance) – white,
oval tablets, with code 745 on one side;
100mg (25mg active substance) – light yellow, oval tablets, with code 747 on
one side.
Gizaar is taken orally, independently on the meal, 1 time per day. The
recommended average daily dose is 50 mg / 12.5 mg. The drug is not intended for
the initial treatment of hypertension, but for cases where conventional therapy
does not bring effect. The maximum effect is usually achieved after 3-4 weeks
of treatment. If necessary, it is allowed to increase the daily dosage to 100
mg / 12.5 mg, which is also the maximum allowable daily dose.
Side effects
After the
beginning of treatment next side effects can become apparent: dizziness, vertigo,
drowsiness, headache, insomnia; angina pectoris, tachycardia; symptomatic
hypotension; abdominal pain, persistent constipation; asthenia, fatigue,
swelling, pain in the chest; anemia, thrombocytopenia; loss of consciousness;
diarrhea, pancreatitis, hepatitis, impaired liver function; flu-like symptoms,
pharyngitis, laryngitis; changes in the functioning of the kidneys.
