Sarafem (Fluoxetine)
The pills of Sarafem
come in round or elongated shapes of white, yellow, purple or gray-pink colors
depending on the dosage and the manufacturer.
The usual dosages for
this antidepressant are 10 and 20 mg. The tablets themselves consist of
selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It has an antidepressant and
stimulating effect. It is effective for endogenous depression and
obsessive-compulsive frustration.
Pharmacological use
It helps to improve
mood, reduces tension, anxiety and a sense of fear, and eliminates dysphoria.
When it’s taken orally, the drug is well absorbed from the gastrointestinal
tract (up to 95% of the taken dose). Using it with food slightly inhibits the
absorption of fluoxetine. It doesn’t cause orthostatic hypotension, sedative
effect, non-cardiotoxic. When it’s taken in medium therapeutic doses, it
practically doesn’t affect the functions of the cardiovascular and other
systems.

use, it is better to discuss the dosage with your physician and make sure to
follow his exact prescriptions.
This medicine has a set
of side effects for health if used any differently from doctor’s orders. Side effects
can be various, for example:
– hypersensitivity;
– epilepsy and
convulsive conditions (in the anamnesis);
– suicide mood;
– diabetes;
– bladder atony;
– prostatic
hypertrophy.
Restrictions to use:
children’s age (safety and effectiveness haven’t been established), myocardial
infarction, cirrhosis.
