Avodart
(Dutasteride) is a medication that is used to cope with a problem of enlarged
prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia). Under the action of this medication
the size of the enlarged prostate significantly becomes smaller. Besides that, Avodart
(Dutasteride) does the urination more painless and reduces the amount of toilet
visits. But the usage of Avodart doesn’t follow to the prevention of prostate
cancer.
Indication for use
Avodart (Dutasteride) can be taken only by
men:
· To treat the symptoms
of moderate and severe benign prostatic hyperplasia;
· To reduce the risk of
acute urinary retention and, if necessary, surgical intervention in patients
with symptoms of moderate and severe benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Precautions
Avodart (Dutasteride) is
not recommended to use if you have: hypersensitivity to dutasteride, other
5a-reductase inhibitors, soybeans, peanuts, or other components of the drug; hepatic
insufficiency.
Dose and usage
Dose of Avodart
(Dutasteride): 0,5 mg –yellow, oblong soft gelatin capsules
imprinted with GX CE2.
The
recommended dose of Avodart is 1 capsule (0.5 mg) per day for oral taking. The
capsule should be swallowed whole, without opening or chewing, as contact with
the contents of the capsule may cause irritation of the mucous membrane of the
mouth and throat. Avodart can be taken independently on mealtime. Treatment
should be continued for at least 6 months.
Side effects
Man who
treat with the help of Avodart (Dutasteride) can feel sometimes such side effects: skin allergic reaction, such as urticaria, rash,
itching. The most common side effect is erectile dysfunction, which may reduce
libido. Local edema may also occur. In some patients, cases of gynecomastia
were observed (in some cases, the breast may become enlarged in men. Usually,
gynecomastia occurs at puberty, which then disappears on its own.
